Deck Staining Tips

• Clean and power-wash your deck thoroughly before staining. Allow it to dry for at least 48 hours.
• Sand rough or splintered boards before applying stain for a smoother finish.
• Apply stain in the direction of the wood grain using a brush, roller, or sprayer.
• Avoid staining in direct sunlight or when rain is expected within 24 hours.
• Rough, weathered wood absorbs more stain than smooth or new wood. Plan for extra material.
• Semi-transparent stains typically require reapplication every 2-3 years; solid stains last 4-5 years.
