Sand Tips

  • For paver base, use 1 inch of leveling sand on top of a compacted gravel base for best results.
  • Play sand for sandboxes should be 6-12 inches deep and is specially washed and screened for safety.
  • Mason sand is finer than concrete sand and works best for paver joints and leveling applications.
  • Sand is very heavy - one cubic yard weighs approximately 2,700 lbs (1.35 tons). Plan delivery accordingly.
  • Wet sand weighs significantly more than dry sand. Ensure your vehicle can handle the load if hauling yourself.
  • For concrete mixing, use sharp sand (concrete sand) rather than fine play sand for proper strength.
